About Me
“My tours are a further expression of my passion, and I love organizing and hosting them. As I often say to my clients, ‘I don’t want you to know your history, I want you to feel it!’
My love for Scottish history began when I was just ten years old, during a school trip to the National Trust for Scotland’s Bannockburn Heritage Centre. Something sparked that day, and I’ve been captivated ever since. As I grew older, that spark turned into a lifelong passion – one that has taken me across Scotland by car and on foot, exploring battlefields, castles, ancient paths, and the landscapes shaped by the people who walked them long before us. I have been doing it ever since!

Over the years, this journey has brought me some unforgettable experiences. In 2000, I was honoured to be invited to Broomhall, the home of Lord Elgin, where we shared fascinating conversations about his ancestor, Robert the Bruce-the outlaw king himself.
During my time as a postman, I also had the pleasure of knowing actor, writer, and medievalist Robert Hardy while he lived at Newhall Estate near Carlops. A true expert on the medieval longbow, he once showed me several of the bows recovered from the Mary Rose ship-an extraordinary privilege I’ll never forget.
My path has crossed with many inspiring historians and storytellers, including Magnus Magnusson, Ted Cowan, and Mat Kaufman, each offering insights that deepened my appreciation for our past. And in 2000, a chance visit to James Thin’s bookshop in Edinburgh led me to William Scott’s Bannockburn Revealed-a book that completely transformed my understanding of the battle and set me on a new course of dedicated study. William has since become both a mentor and a friend.
In 2022, i launched my YouTube channel, Robert the Bruce-Genius of Bannockburn, where I share films about Robert the Bruce, the Scottish Wars of Independence, and the stories that shaped our nation.I also love exploring earlier periods of history, from the Roman occupation to the native tribes who first called this land home.
Before long, people began asking if I offered private tours-and so another chapter began. Today, I’m delighted to create and host both fixed and bespoke history tours across Scotland and Northern England, guiding others through the landmarks, tales, and turning points that make our heritage so rich and compelling.
History has given me a lifetime of wonder, and I’m thrilled to share that passion with others-whether through film, conversation, or walking in the footsteps of those who came before us.
